Silvana de Soissons is the editor of online food magazine, The Foodie Bugle, which I have had the great honour of contributing to on a couple of occasions. This is her creative space.

It is a long and narrow room, approximately 8m x 4m, but along one side runs the staircase that goes down into the cellar. Silvana says “I like working near the wine!”

This is the space in which Silvana writes and edits articles for The Foodie Bugle, sews, embroiders, knits, reads cookery books, writes recipes, listens to the radio and calls friends and family.

She says “As I look out of the window I can see our orchard, which has several apple, pear, plum and quince trees. Many generations ago a previous owner underplanted it with snowdrops, so it really does lift the soul in winter!”

I think it’s really important to be surrounded by things you love when you are trying to be creative and Silvana has covered one wall with photos and magazine shots that inspire her. She has also surrounded herself with the old typewriters, old telephones, old fashioned writing desks, pens, notebooks and paper that she loves. She says “There are often garden flowers in my study, which I collect when taking my dog out for a walk.”

Silvana says: “I love my office. It is my place of peace and quiet, where I go to think and plan. I am so lucky to have such a lovely place to call my own and I never take it for granted.” As Virginia Woolf said “A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction” – I think it applies equally to food blogs!

“I like working near the wine!” Good girl! How nice to have a space of your own like that, I’m so envious, especially with a lovely view over trees.

I love Silvana’s website so it’s so nice to see where she works. As someone else who sees dog walks as an opportunity for gathering flowers, foliage, blossom or whatever else happens to be in season I’m very envious of those Hellebores.

What a lovely space! It feels very relaxed and natural – must be a great place for creative thinking and inspiration.
