Green & Blue red calendar

Named after the landscape that surrounds them, Green and Blue are a small product design company based on the north Cornish coast. They are currently exhibiting at Home London in the Homegrown section, so as official blogger, it’s my job to find out more about them…

What’s your background? How did you end up doing what you do?

We both worked for a number of design companies prior to starting Green&Blue. In 2005, with sketch books full of ideas, we moved to  Cornwall to make our own way.

What’s the most important thing to know about Green and Blue?

Everything we do is about making better products, from the design and the materials we use to the feedback our customers give us. Where and how our products are made is important too, we work with an incredible team of skilled craftsman that help bring our ideas to life. We are not afraid to get our hands dirty – for us this is a fundamental part of the process, to build, test, make, mould and shape.

Describe a really good day in the life of Green and Blue and a really bad day.

A good day: sunshine, a clean groundswell, clear thinking, good coffee and happy customers.

A bad day: the opposite of all those things!

Birds are clearly a big part of your life…

Yes, both Kate and I have loved birds for as long as we can remember, they herald the start of everyday, dazzle us with their mumerations and travel thousands of miles to spend summers with us.

What impact does being based in Cornwall have on your work?

Living and working in Cornwall give us great balance, in our work and life – and our surroundings inspire us tremendously.

What are you most proud of?

Knowing that customers buy our products because of how they work and where they are made makes us very proud.

What advice would you give to an aspiring product designer?

The ideas just the beginning, how you apply and evolve it is more challenging.

And finally, favourite colours please!

It has to be the slate grey of our new glazed products.
