With a wide remit of “craft and design” and over 100 makers in the building, curating Craft Central‘s annual show for the London Design Festival must be a tough job, but every year they find a way to create a different perspective on craft. This year Total Fabrication is “an interactive exhibition of contemporary design for interiors with a material twist.”

I’ve long been a fan of Pia Wustenberg’s work with Utopia & Utility – her stacking vessels, this one in wood, glass and copper definitely offers “a material twist.” Each element is handmade.

Interstice by Jo Woffinden is a new take on origami, made from stoneware paper clay, lacquer and wood. I love the white on white aesthetic.

Jewellery designer and paper artist Angela Fung had made the incredible ceiling installation – origami on a much larger scale, originally designed for the Collect exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery.

I was so excited to see blacksmith Bex Simon‘s bench, having visited her workshop in Surrey to see it being made. Bex is a bundle of energy who said she doesn’t feel human when she’s not building – definitely one to watch.

TedWood‘s Hang Up Lamp is made from English rawhide leather, with solid brass hardware. It smells amazing!

This is another piece by London-based ceramics and concrete specialist Jo Woffinden – another pared-back colour palette using just grey and white to create simple understated forms.

Seapot by Stephanie Wright is made from hand-thrown black clay with Icelandic seaweed – and finally Architecture 1 by Charlie Whinney made from steam-bent planed ash and jesomonite. I think it’s absolutely beautiful.
