It’s no secret that I love People Will Always Need Plates, so I was very excited when they kindly invited me to see their studio, which is nestled in the top of their gorgeous home.

After tea and homemade cookies (oh yes!), we headed up for an explore. The first challenge is to navigate the possibly lethal staircase…

Dark wooden spiral staircase with white wall leading to mustard yellow carpet with no rails

…and once you’ve got over your vertigo, as you’d expect the studio is perfectly appointed with a mix of design classics and quirky curios, all set against a calm colour scheme providing the perfect backdrop for focused creativity.

London's Buildings

If you’re a fan of the People Will Always Need Plates illustrative style, or simply of architecture, their first book, London Buildings, is a must. Divided into domestic, business and industrial, transport, cultural and historical sections, each building is beautifully presented and comes with a little bit of background information, so you can learn while you admire. There’s even a guide to where to find each building at the back in case you wanted to play I Spy!

I was amused to see that this set of Muji pens seems to make its way into the home of every stationery fetishist I know!

A massive thank you to Robin and Hannah for inviting me into their studio (and for the amazing cookies!) and best of luck with the book!
