Henry Franks Confused Coat Hangers

As we get closer and closer to the big day, I am delighted to announce another BRINK designer: Henry Franks.

The Confused Coat Hanger is part of a range of ‘dyslexic objects’ Henry has designed. Dyslexic himself, his intention is to improve objects by adding of a dyslexic element.

Some of the symptoms of dyslexia include a short attention span and difficulty reading because letters can appear the wrong way around or upside-down. Henry says: “The Confused Coat Hanger wasn’t paying attention when being told which way round it was supposed to be because it was daydreaming about whales (note whale tail shape) and as a result has a double hooked head. The benefit of this is that it can hang either way round when hanging your clothes up so you don’t have to turn the hanger around.”

His other dyslexic products include upside-down mugs, which are more stable as a result of being wider at the bottom and pen pots which only hold a few pens, in the same way a dyslexic’s brain can only hold a few things at a time, reducing clutter and providing a special place for the tools you really need.

Through this project, Henry is elegantly turning a negative into a positive – something I absolutely applaud – so I’m really excited to have him on board.

BRINK is a showcase of 2013 graduate talent at Tent London (stand E02) 19th – 22nd September 2013. I will be posting more news on how it’s coming together over the next two weeks, so watch this space!
