Sebastian Cox LDF13

I met Sebastian Cox at Tent London and was so moved by his passion for the material he works with that I had to feature his woodland studio on creative spaces at the first possible opportunity.

He says: “I am so in love with my material and how it ties in with a more sustainable life, I sit up at night thinking about it, reading up on it and watching TED talks about it. Planing a board of quarter sawn English timber to reveal its medullary flecks and rays genuinely makes my pulse race. And my work hasn’t even scratched the surface of what’s possible using coppiced hazel, I’ve got so many ideas of where I want to go with it. My favourite days are in the woods, harvesting hazel. It’s hard work but is so rewarding; it’s such a special treat to spend a day in the woods for work.”

I think that says it all.
