Following the success of Mini Moderns Remix at the East London Design Store during London Design Festival 2013, the design duo have shunned the traditional trade show route again this year, and taken over the Southbank Centre Shop for the whole of September with Remix 2.
“I was extremely jealous last year when Keith and Mark’s inspired ‘Mini Moderns: Remix’ project popped up at the East London Design Store,” said Adam Thow, Head of Retail & Buying at Southbank Centre. “It was fascinating to see other people take their eye for mid-century details and intuitive understanding of form and colour, and incorporate it into their own work. I am delighted they are ‘coming home’ to the Southbank Centre this year and revisiting some of the classic Festival of Britain designs and inspirations on new products and in new colours.”
The Remix 2 collection focuses on designs that Mini Moderns has created in partnership with Southbank Centre over the past few years – particularly Net and Ball, Concert and Festival. I am super-excited about all the new Net and Ball products. In 2008 Keith and Mark were commissioned to reproduce one of the Festival of Britain’s most iconic patterns, Net and Ball, as wallpaper. It was originally designed as a carpet in 1951 by the architects of the Royal Festival Hall, Peter Moro and Leslie Martin. The new Remix collection sees Net and Ball brought to life on everything from glassware to bright yellow tea towels.
The collection also includes curations, commissions and collaborations from Matt Sewell, Rimmington Vian, Galapagos Design and London Kills Me. Their newest collaborator, Stumped Studio, has created a collection using Mini Moderns Environmentally Friendly Paint – and I’m delighted to say that Keith and Mark discovered Stumped Studio via confessions of a design geek!
