Before Christmas, I shared some pictures of an exhibition of design graduates I curated for Desso called Best In Class. As part of the exhibition visitors could vote for a winner, who was awarded a £500 bursary from Desso to invest in their career. I am delighted to announce that University of Dundee graduate Steve Swanton won with his LUX Lamp – a beautiful Scandinavian-inspired product for people with seasonal affective disorder.
Since graduating Steve has set up Splintr with fellow new designers, Jack Fisher and Francis Munnoch “Splintr is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Edinburgh specialising in furniture and lighting design,” said Steve. “Our ethos is grounded in a passion for uncomplicated, thoughtful and contemporary design. Splintr strives to recontextualise materials and found objects as much as possible to produce practical and beautifully made contemporary furniture, bespoke items for retailers, and private clients.”
Here is a short film made at the launch event by Beautiful Productions, which tells you a bit more about each of the six designers selected for the exhibition.
