Sorry I’ve been a little quiet on the Fiera front – a well earned break followed by lots of behind the scenes work starting to get the magazine off the ground! I’ll be able to share lots of news of what we’ve been up to soon, but in the meantime I wanted to say some belated thank yous for press coverage that came in right at the end of the Kickstarter campaign.
Firstly a big thank you to Creative Review for their feature on 15 July 2014. Mark Sinclair said “Fiera magazine is designed to help readers discover new talent at the world’s furniture and product design fairs – and is set to launch this November having just reached its Kickstarter target…” and I was delighted to see a comment from Jai @ DeFrae saying, “This is just the title that the industry has been crying out for. We are all constantly searching for the best new products around the globe. Looking forward to Fiera.” Thanks Jai!

And another big thank you to James Cartwright for bringing up Fiera as a topic for discussion in the It’s Nice That Studio Audience Weekly Podcast on Thursday 17th July. He said, “It’s just quite exciting to see Jeremy, who for anyone who doesn’t know runs a website called magCulture, so he’s got a wealth of experience in magazine design… I’m just fascinated by what he’s going to produce…. He’s chosen a subject that’s very closed, design festivals are quite closed off to people who can’t got there, and it’s nice that he’s opening them up… It’s about making sense of [them] as well – around design festival time there is so much additional information you get because of sponsorship deals, because of certain agreements re press coverage, [so] it is really, really hard to cut to the core of what’s really exciting… I think it’s great that someone is taking their curatorial and editorial approach and pulling out the best bits and turning it into something that is digestible and comprehensible…”
I was just a little bit heartbroken to hear Liv Siddall add, “…and exciting – if I hear the words design festival, I pretty much switch off because I just find it quite boring.” As I can’t think of anything more exciting than a design fair, I’m going to make it my personal challenge to get Liv excited about design fairs! Watch this space Liv!
We’ll be back soon with more news on how the magazine is progressing. In the meantime, thank you again for all your support – none of this would be happening with you. And if you missed the chance to back the campaign while it was live, you can still pre-order a copy of the magazine from the magCulture online shop.
