This month’s creative spaces post features the enchantingly titled “Orchard Studio;” home to Emma Bond’s garden design business. The wonderful photography is all by Emma herself, who, as well as designing, building and writing about gardens, is a keen photographer with a love for vintage cameras.
Coloured pencils
The studio is located within a small complex of buildings (once the abattoir to a cattle market) and date back to Roman times. The studio itself is built in the gap between two buildings dating back to the early 19th Century.
Desk
Emma’s neighbours include a photographer and a tile maker. She finds working around creative people very inspiring, as well as having the space to wander outside to photograph plants, and the opportunity to sit outside during the working day.
Radio and book shelf
As you can see from these lovely photographs, the inside of her studio is full of inspirational items and images too.
Bookshelf
Emma also runs the Bath Gardening School, based at the Botanical Gardens, teaching informal day courses covering everything from kitchen gardens to bee keeping and garden photography, giving her even more inspiration to bring back to her studio.
Inspirational images on the wall
Emma found the studio by chance when it was advertised in a shop, giving her the opportunity to move her business from her kitchen table where it all began.
Garden plans and more inspirational images
And she’s found that since moving the business to its new home, it’s flourished and grown from “a kitchen table effort” to a “fully fledged grown-up business.”
Little pink chicks!
Thank you so much to Emma for giving us a little peek into her creative space and for these wonderful pictures.

I was lucky enough to interview in-house designer Aino-Maija Metsola. We talked inspirations, ways of working, and finding just the right…

I like her studio – it’s creatively organised! (Er, much like mine…). Lots of colour and character, just the kind of stuff to get you in the mood. It doesn’t surprise me at all when creative people also happen to take really good photographs – it’s all about being in tune with (and being able to create) environments. Nice theme, Katie.
What a lovely space! I love her inspiration wall.
I know; me too – it’s gorgeous, isn’t it?!
I love that pencils shot. It’s always nice to see how creative people decorate their spaces. Good series Katie. xx
Thank you Carole – it’s lovely isn’t it? Emma’s a great photographer as well having many gardening / design related talents!
