The Woodieful Chair is an a-shaped laminated beech object comprising two solid edges at right angles to one another, and  four c-shaped slats with spaces in between to enable objects such as books and magazines to be slotted between them. Turned on its side or upside down its functionality changes from seat to magazine rack, or from coffee table to umbrella stand.

“We created this piece with the belief that furniture should never be limited to only one function,” says Klavdija. “This is why the Woodieful Chair isn’t limited to the sitting function of a chair.”

The young designer believes that this flexibility, combined with the natural materials and craftsmanship inherent in the making process will give this object longevity. “I believe in sustainable, long-lasting furniture that can be passed on for generations,” she says. “My challenge was to design a timeless piece of furniture that could change with trends and encourage users to see its continued relevance in their homes.”

Klavdija chose to work with wood, not only for its eco-credentials and functionality, but also for the warmth it lends to an interior. “Wood is nature’s expression of elegance,” she says. “I believe wood should be present in every home, due to its naturally pleasant smell, warmth and the dash of sophistication and quality it can bring to a room.”

The constituent parts of the chair are shaped with a CNC (computer numerically controlled) machine and then glued together. The whole piece is then sanded – such a time consuming process, that the designer says “you could easily say that the chair is handcrafted.” Prototypes of the Woodieful chair have been shown at Skopje Design Week, Ambient fair in Slovenia’s Ljubljana, the Zagreb Expo and the Roma Verso Expo, but the finished article is exclusively available through Kickstarter.

Love this! Good design is not really about looks, the functionality has to bee there to.
