Tryp Hotel NYC lobby

I hope you’ll forgive me for the slight bias towards ‘out and about’ posts this week – there is so much exciting stuff to report from BlogTourNYC! We have arrived in New York and checked into a rather wonderful hotel, that’s been open for less than two months, so I thought I’d show you around…

Tryp Hotel NYC lobby

There are a couple of interesting things about this hotel. Firstly the lobby, or rather lack of lobby. The concept is based around a Mediterranean piazza, ‘Plaza Central,’ and intended to be a place where people will feel comfortable just hanging out. There is a bar and large communal tables for breakfast or a coffee during the day.

Breakfast becomes a fun lively affair, and you get chatting to other guests at the bar.

Which brings me to the next interesting thing – they also have their own internal version of Facebook, which connects guests with each other, and with staff. So you can meet and chat to anyone else staying in the hotel, and also quickly get in touch with staff if you need something while out and about in New York.

Tryp Hotel Room

The blackboard theme from downstairs is continued into the rooms – this time with lots of quotes and facts about New York. My favourite one is “Everyone ought to have a Lower East Side in their life.” We’ve had great fun comparing rooms, to discover that some of us have slightly better rooms than others! Mine (above) is one of the smaller ones – larger rooms also have a desk area.

Other rooms include fitness rooms, which have gym equipment in the room(!); family rooms complete with bunk beds; and media rooms kitted out with 55″ TVs, surround sound, popcorn makers, a Nintento Wii, 3D glasses and a Blu Ray player!

And here’s Team BlogTourNYC ready to go!

I feel so lucky to be here, so I would like to say a huge thank you to Tim and Veronika from Modenus for inviting me to come along, and to the sponsors: Jenn Air, Ethan Allen, Axor, Miele, Blanco, Rotsen Furniture, Poggenpohl, Modern-Aire, Scholtes, Du Verre, Spirit of Sports, Big Ass Fans, Samuel Heath, Vitra, Victoria and Albert Baths and Wallunica, for making the trip possible.

It was lots of fun – lovely communal area with a real buzz to it, especially in the evenings.
