I’m sharing some of my favourite posts from 2014 all throughout the holidays. This one is about gorgeous Mayfair shop, The New Craftsmen, which champions British craft…

The New Craftsmen

I fell in love with The New Craftsmen the moment I popped my head into their Mayfair pop-up on a cold, dark December day last year, by which time they already had a cult following. The team are lovely, the products are stunning, and the ethos, to champion British craftspeople, is admirable. They have just opened their first permanent space and I couldn’t wait to check it out, not least because it’s where the Fiera Magazine launch party is happening on Thursday!

The New Craftsmen

The 2,000 square foot space is a 19th Century former leather breeches workshop and it’s as light, airy and bright as their previous space was dark, cosy and hyggely. The New Craftsmen was founded in 2012 by Catherine Lock, Natalie Melton and Mark Henderson to champion craftsmanship from the British Isles and now represents a network of over 75 makers working in textiles, silverware, furniture, ceramics, jewellery and glassware.

“Our ambition is for it to become a true hub for buying, commissioning, learning about and making fine craft,” said co-founder Natalie Melton. “A permanent home means that we can establish a pace and a rhythm that falls in step with the very best makers – not rushed, nor hurried, but delivered with thought and consideration.”

I want to say a really special thank you to Natalie for hosting Thursday’s event, not least because the shop was still a building site when she agreed to get involved! The New Craftsmen is the perfect launch pad for my new venture and I couldn’t be more proud to be working with these wonderful people to make it happen. I hope to see you all there on Thursday. The Kickstarter page is now live, so pre-order your copy of Fiera Magazine now.
